A Stylized Wasteland

This project is a stylized Fallout-inspired environment scene I created for my tech art course. My goal was to use Houdini’s procedural tools, build Houdini Digital Assets, and refine my material workflows directly inside Unreal Engine. The scene is inspired by "Filly" from the Fallout TV show, which itself draws from Megaton in Fallout 3. The two main assets I focused on are a watchtower and a supply store building, inspired by Ma June’s / Crater Supply. Both were built as Houdini Digital Assets (HDAs) to give me more flexibility during layout. I also used splines for modular walls and paths, and integrated FAB assets to help fill out the scene. I used a post process volume and material to add the outlines to the scene for a more stylized look.
I want to give credit to the various creators whose tutorials I learned from in building this scene, including: IndiePixel, Chris Murphy, Pitchfork Academy, Aziel Arts, Harvey, Gorka Games and robertaldridge.dev . I also want to give credit to the various FAB assets I used in this scene from creators including: Dagon 3D, GeorgeShachnev, maxgen3d, Astra Nova, UB and Dmitriy Dryzhak.

Custom Primitive Data for the color variations of the shipping crate walls. You can use any value between 0 and 1 for each random float in range to get a wide variety of colors, or in my case just shades of red.
